Why do I have to reactivate my card?
This takes a bit of a technical explanation, but since you clicked this question, youâre probably curious! Hereâs our best attempt to make it simple:
Your bank cardâwhich you might just call your âVisa cardââis actually connected to two different payment systems: BankAxept and Visa. BankAxept is the shared payment system used by all Norwegian banks. In Norway, 9 out of 10 card payments in stores go through BankAxept, not Visa.
When we first launched tap to pay in December 2024, it worked with BankAxept. This means that if you tried to tap at a terminal that only accepts Visa (and not BankAxept), your Vipps tap card didnât have a âsystem to talk to,â so it didnât work.
Now, our agreement with Visa is finally in place! But Vipps isnât allowed to update your card without your permission. Thatâs why you need to go into Vipps and reactivate your cardâso it can work with both Visa and BankAxeptđ§Ą
